EngAging Illinois • Branding, Communications Planning/Support, Publication Development

In August 2024, Governor JB Pritzker signed Executive Order 2024-02, directing the Illinois Department on Aging to produce a Multisector Plan for Aging by the end of 2025: a blueprint with measurable outcomes for older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers through 2036. Director Mary Killough and Chief Planning Officer Michelle Hoersch led the effort alongside 15 state agencies, a 25-member Community Advisory Council, and nine public engagement sessions that gathered input from hundreds of residents statewide.
Our Role
SCP was engaged to develop the branding and messaging for the emerging plan, creating the name EngAging Illinois along with its logo and graphic identity. Through that work, SCP was invited to support the writing and design of the Plan itself, and then to support the launch: writing the content for the Plan’s public debut on the Illinois Department on Aging website and developing the site map and information architecture for a dedicated EngAging Illinois site now in development. SCP also designed and launched EngAging Matters, the initiative’s newsletter; produced social media graphics, two-pagers, and a postcard; coordinated a statewide portrait campaign that kicked off at the Illinois State Fair; and is researching, structuring, and designing the initiative’s first annual report to the Governor’s office.
Impact
EngAging Illinois: A Comprehensive Plan for Living Well was delivered on the Governor’s timeline and published in early 2026, placing Illinois among the first wave of states to take a multisector approach to aging. The identity SCP created now carries across the published Plan, the state’s web presence, the newsletter, and social channels, giving a decade-long, cross-agency initiative a single recognizable name. SCP continues to support EngAging Illinois as the Plan moves into implementation, working with its Commission, work groups, and special initiatives.
